Tarp Tents

Some tarps can be set up like a tent hence the name tarp tents. Some come with a clip-in bug net solving one of most common problems when using a tarp. Tarp tents can save pack weight by using hiking poles that many hikers carry anyway. Another alternative is to use sticks found near the campsite.

Tarp tents are reasonably easy to make. They involve a minimum amount of sewing. However once sewn into a particular configuration there may be only one way to pitch it. They seem to be gaining in popularity due to their weight savings over a tent and improved protection from rain over a tarp.
